Personal medical care is important to Citizens Medical Center. That’s why we have an expert team of hospitalists to make sure patients receive proper attention and care.
The generic definition is a physician/provider who specializes in treating patients in the hospital.
Your primary care doctor, an emergency doctor, or another specialist has referred you to the hospitalist service. Hospitalists are specialized in care for hospitalized patients, one is assigned to your care, and a provider is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The hospitalist will be in charge of your care and will see you every day to direct your treatment while you are in the hospital. The hospitalist works for the hospital fulltime and is available to you and your family to answer questions and discuss your care. The hospitalist may consult other doctors regarding your care. Our providers are in constant communication with all of the people providing your care while at Citizens.
Don’t worry, your primary care physician won’t be in the dark about your care. Part of the hospitalist’s duties involve working together with your doctor. The two doctors discuss any significant findings or events during your stay. At the time of discharge your medical information is sent to your doctor. And, your doctor is always welcome to check on you!
The hospitalist and case manager will assist in finding a doctor for you to see after leaving the hospital. Records from your stay can be sent to your new physician. The hospitalist will make arrangements for any prescriptions you may need when you are discharged. You will be asked to see your primary care doctor for any refills.
In short, you receive better and more coordinated care then you would otherwise. Hospitalist benefits include:
Your hospitalist is happy to speak with you or your family while you are in the hospital. Ask your nurse and they will contact them for you. When you leave the hospital, the hospitalist will communicate the details of your hospital stay with your primary care physician for continuity of care and discharge planning.
Our team is made up of a variety of providers who coordinate your care– Physicians, Physician Assistants, and Nurse Practitioners.
